I have a clarke se16c100 and recently bought an airfed mask, it keeps up but runs approx 50% of the time would it be better to reduce pressure to 8 bar to keep compressor cooler as the paint on head has discoloured which I presume is down to heat. The mask whistle never sounded so it kept up fine but I am aware that constant running is not best for it. If this would be better I could fit a second pressure switch at 8 bar and then just turn on whichever one is required dependant upon usage. I also have the offer of a 150litre tank for free from work so this would increase running time but also give longer cooling time in between so would this be of benefit as well.

Do you have a regulator to feed the mask? Setting this to the lowest permissible pressure will be the best thing to do.
If you reduce the cut-off pressure it will run less between stops, but will stop for a shorter time because you will run the air off more quickly at the lower pressure.
If you fit another switch you will also have to plumb in a 2nd unloading pipe. This is quite involved, because the 8 bar switch will open its unloading valve before the 10 bar switch switches off, so you'll waste a lot of air.
That said, I have the same compressor that runs continuously and it has survived for over 10 years. the head & delivery pipe get too hot to touch.
