Ear defenders & welding helmets

As I have the Esab Eyetech 2 helmet I would like to use that for grinding etc as well as welding.

But as my hearing has been damaged over years of diy work with no hearing protection i always tend to grab the peltor ear defenders for loud work but of course these wouldnt fit under a welding helmet !!

Am I best to use the welding helmet with push in ear plugs or get a grinding mask and stick with the peltors ??

Any suggestions / recommendations ?

I would go for the grinding mask, I find when operating a grinder you need good visibility not just the work pice but what's going on aground you.

I have an optrel with a grinding setting but never use it.
I always swap over to goggles and ear defenders and try to put the welding helmet out of the way so it doesn't get blasted with sparks.

Me too, particularly the last bit; the sacrificial screens get knackered quick enough from weld spatter without peppering them with the grinder.

I gave up with the grinding function pretty early on mainly because mig/arc welding gloves are too big to push the button in.

same, welding helmets are expensive and tiresom to replace parts, i normally use cutting glasses under my helmet with push in ear plugs as i swap from weld to grind so often..

Esab make adapters for their welding helmets
Goes on headband and pushes out the helmet at the sides
I will see if i can find the info when i get home

I have used eardefenders without any problems with both kemppi alfra,speedglass,euromaski helmets . I put the helmet on first then the eardefenders i usually put the eardefenders headband behind the helmets headband and if i get any resistance from it when lifting the helmet i just push the eardefenders headband further back and adjust it. The only problem i have had is the antenna being in the way since i use the ones with radio in them.
i know alot of people who use them this way.
