I clean area and the part, would clamping mole grips and then put earth lead on the grips be better, as the clamps grip not that great
Is the torch lead straight when you test and then bent when welding on the car, you could need a new liner if it is.Just been looking a copper and brass ones

I you have a poor connection, the clamp can get very hot. I have seen the end of mine glow red.Just wondering what a welder will do if the Earth clamps not very good, what should I look out for as having a few probs
350 amps won't even get noticed through a clamp like that. Nice bit of innovation.Here is one I made for about $10 quite a few years ago and still going strong. A "C" clamp (or
"G" clamp depending where you are from) with a bolt drilled through it and a lug fitted to the 2/0 cable, the "caps" made from pieces of copper pipe which was slit, opened out and then flattened, cheap and practical and makes a very good connection through the caps with no arc marks.
I cleaned up the areas down to the metal where the caps fit the clamp and where the bolt went through and have put up to 350amps through it with out any dramas. Generally I just leave it bolted to my work bench but occasionally I use it to connect to the work itself.
