Earth lead connections

Probably a stupid question but my mig has to earth lead connections one has a symbol something like an ohm symbol and the other is like a duble ohm symbol.

Would I be right in thinking it's something to do with different voltage / current ranges?

It would probably be different impedance setting, low and high (the symbols represent coils of the inductor.) Use the high one for normal welding.

My miller has two earth connection points with a thick material symbol and a thin. There is however no reference to what point material becomes thick

The ones we had at work recommended high inductance below 8mm material thickness and low above.

Just tried swapping back and forth between the two sockets without changing any other settings it seems to make no difference to the volts and amps shown on the screen. I don't think it made any difference to the welds either.

Yes, those are high/low inductances, use the high (R/H) one for thinner material.

Jumping on to this my welder a murex transmig 300 has 3 places for a earth the same 2 as above and a symbol that looks like a earth clamp. I carnt see any reference in the manual. Any ideas what it represents?

Mines a transmig 353 and only has the 2 shown.

Can you post a picture? we had the Transmig 350 (same manual for 300) and they only had 2 inductance sockets.

Looks like an older model than the ones I worked on, the low (centre) and high (R/H) inductance sockets are there but I don't recognise the symbol over the L/H socket

It's about 20 years old. It is a earth I know that much as it welds when the earth is plugged into it.

It does get bigger and readable but i still dont actually comprehend what it means lol
