Eclipse demagnetiser

just squired this in a box of junk I bought for some carver tee slot clamps:

Anyway never used one before and typically can't find anything to demagnetise. I've plugged it in and it sounds like a doorbell is this what it should do?

Am I safe to assume that you would pass the item to demagnetise over top until it is no longer magnetic?

Can i bring my Harrison lathe over and you can demagnetise that for me

It could be worse, you could have one and not know how to work it. It looks like an experimenting session is in order.

Just turn it on and drag your tool across the plates. Couldn't be more simple.

Very useful. My engineers square has a habit of attracting a lot of grinding dust which I really don't like, a proper tool to deal with this would be good.
My solution is to wrap the welding cable round it and jam the rod (using an ac welder) which works but doesn't do the cable any good, it doesn't like being wound so tightly.
