Thought I'd do a wee write up but mainly just show loads of pics on my Elliott Progress Pedestal Drill Refurb. The idea was to give it all a good clean, fix anything that was broken, prep and paint, and lubricate. The top cover had a tab missing so i tigged on a new one, two of the knobs were missing so I machined up a couple of new ones out of acetal plastic, I used Jotun Penguard HB epoxy paint, I dropped the quill out and gave it a clean and lubed the bearings, adjusted the return spring which I'll detail later on and welded up the drill holes in the table. If I was doing it again I'd probably braze them up.
I bought it from a company reasonably locally and transported it to my workshop in our small estate car. It is a really well made machine and should last for years.
The quill just winds out the bottom.
To adjust the return spring take out the grub screw making sure to hold the spring casing, wind the quill out a bit then just wind the spring casing so the quill returns up on it's own. When putting the grub screw back in look down the hole and make sure it's aligned with the holes in the spring casing.
Rust proofed inside.
