Engine bay painting - Mini

I am currently rebuilding my mini body shell, i am now doing the engine bay, i have taken off all the underseal and taken off any loose rust.

i am debating whether to strip it all to metal as there is some rust bubbling or whether to use hammerite as a base coat

what tool would be best to remove the surface rust, i was thinking a dremel with some sort of grinding wheel?! it will take me all year doing it by hand with some sand paper.

If its only surface rust a wire cup brush mounted in a drill will do the job. Or a twist knot wire brush in an angry grinder if you want something a little more fierce.

Don't even think about leaving any rust and painting over it. It WILL come through again very soon. Its worth taking the time to do the job properly while you have the engine out.

Actually, I just noticed, you don't actually say you have the engine out! Its just me being presumptious!

Whichever way you look at it, you need to sort the rust as it won't go away until you do, it will just get worse.
