epoxy seperated in can

hi,fina straw in the long running epoxy primer battle, i got a fresh can of lechler 2k epoxy primer today and as i was opening it to start mixing a batch ive found the solids have seperated into one lump in the bottom of the can,the lump is too hard to stir by hand,is there anything i can do as i am ready to spray and there will not be a delivery again today

Luck of the Irish? Clearly old stock. All you cad is try and reconstitute it to a smoothe paste with a little of the separated binder. If you can't I wouldn't use it.

When I got mine it was very thick(not sure if separated that much).I had to use a i/2 inch thick wooden dowel to stir it up, took a while though.
Has yours got a tint to it, as a lot of times people seem to use it with no tint?

Yeah I would say very old stock Nick, If I leave mine a year it don't look like that !!!

ha ha yea i bought it for the job, in the end i took it to the local hardware place and he shook it for me, some job,i just hope it hasn't affected the paint,believe it or not i find it harder to spray than the jotun primer

Its should be fine - just needed the necessary oompf to get it mixed again. My tins of the same stuff looked exactly the same after a year on the shelf in the workshop. Bought a metal paint stirring attachment for my drill and after 30 mins all was well. Sprayed another coat on my MGB shell today and the paint behaved impeccably.

mine didnt behave impecibly lol though i think operator error may have been to blame,mine was untinted so the same colour as blasted steel so that combined with an inexpierenced painter equals a few runs! but sure its only the primer and its been a lesson

If you refer to your other thread you will see that we advised against using untinted epoxy, it makes it difficult to apply, now you know why

It's the primer that gives you the colour
