epoxy thinners..any thing special?

just about to buy some epoxy primer from jotun ...as said in previous posts its for unseen areas that dont have to look great

the thinners is a bit pricey , anyone know if celly or 2k thinners would work as i have loads of that laying around

I used 2k thinners when I sprayed it, worked fine, came out very nice.

I know that standard thinner will do the job of thinning the paint and allowing it to be sprayed. I'm sure you must lose some of the special properties of the epoxy though, the toughness and the waterproof element must be reduced.

If you are going to the trouble of buying expensive epoxy paint for it's enhanced properties it surely makes sense to use the right primer that preserves those properties.

yeah point taken on the correct stuff

just alot of thinners isnt special at all just a nice money maker

just had a sniff of the epoxy mastic thinner in the shed , doesnt smell like celly , more of a hammerite whiff

Why would the waterproofing be reduced?? A reducer is surely as the name suggests, there to thin the paint for different uses. Having used the paint, and with thinner with sprayed, brushed & rollered, there's not the faintest sign of anything wrong with it.

The No.17 thinners that I got for Jotun paint is naptha from memory.

If you can afford air fed breathing mask etc, surely a few ££ extra on thinners is going to be ok?

If normal thinners works, why spend more? Contains Xylene like other thinners as well as naphtha

already got the tools from when i worked in a bodyshop , im out of work at the moment so if i can save a few quid i will

Yes you should use the correct thinner, I pay £10 per litre so its not dear, you can get away with 2K thinner but it affects the adhesion qualities so i was told by the Lechlar rep.

Not off the top of my head but the Lechlar thinner is called Epofan.
