ERP 4HP Vertical Compressor

Does anyone have any experience of one? I need a bit more grunt than the usual 3hp. I can't make my mind up (as ever) between a 4 hp vertical compressor or perhaps one of the tandem 2*3hp ones. Machine Mart seem to be out of the latter and no sign of a VAT free day so scouting round for alternatives. Any help or opinions gratefully received.

I got notification of a VAT free day in the post yesterday.

I like the idea of two smaller compressors, so if one fails you still have some air.

I assume you just need a 2 into 1 connector and some extra airlines to run the comps in tandem?

For some reason I keep thinking that could cause problems, backpressure or something, but the pressure reg on the comp won't let any overpressure through. Maybe I'll get another comp to keep my air tools running longer.

Just connect them together in parallel. I'm not sure if regulators don't like backpressure, but you can connect the tanks together before the regulator. The pressure in each tank will be same (near enough) and the pressure switches will switch the pump off when the correct pressure is reached.

I'd set the switches at slightly different pressures so the motors don't switch simultaneaously to avoid mains surges.

I fancied one of those, but don't have the space. I have the 14cfm 3hp one and it's done me sterling service (touch wood).

I have the same one as Rtb I believe SE15C150 and I'm very pleased with it. That twin one looks the biz! 28cfm displacement is very good and tbh, it's not a bad price at all when you don't have to add the VAT. I want one!!

What's the difference between the se15c150 and the se16c150? Is it just the lack of "aftercooler"? (and 70 quid)

Hmmm, good question, I think mine might actually be the se16 rather than the 15, I'll have to check. It could just be the lack of aftercooler.

I'm on the hunt for a compressor the noo, and that se16 on a vat free looks like a goer. Comparable with a Shiremoor but without the vat and delivery cost. Hmm.....

I got a bargain just before christmas with a fistful of cash but they must be £400-450ish (single phase).
Mine had been a tax write-off after being damaged in transit. They replaced the everything, motor, pumps, fan and repainted it and let me have it for 300 with full warranty.
Not cheap but worth giving them a call and see what they've got, they're no nonsense and honest. I have two friends with these who are professional car restorers/painters and they've only had one motor replaced in 14 years of hard service. Dat's good enough for me!

They do a tandem model similar to the one at machine mart that i am interested in. I have emailed them for a price.

I ended up with the Clarke tandem compressor. Ordered it on a VAT free day to save a few pennies. WOW, its the proveribal dogs ******. I have enough air to sandblast with comfort and run pretty much any tool I could ever dream of affording.
