esab 1250 copper free wire

trying to find a decent welding wire, I was using INE bronze coated but our suppliers stopped stocking it so I then switched to lincon suppa copper free and now having problems with it not being consistant in quality, just got 6 reels of esab 1250 copper free wire to try, I use 8 to 10 18kg reels of 1mm wire a week so usually buy in quite large quantities so often get different batch numbers and was wondering if anyone has used this esab wire for any period of time

We use ESAB wire at work but buy 275 or 475Kg marathon packs, would these be more cost effective for you?

Why do you want Copper Free. It never works as well as Coppered. Feeding issues, liner clogging and poor tip life are not unusual with cu free. The best lubricant on the wire is the copper. The copper free has to have something or it would flash rust so its got either phosphate or sulphate neither of which perform as well as the copper.
BTW the INE is copper coated not bronze (its rep speak)
If you are using Cu Free because someone has told you its less toxic (lower Cu). Firstly ask them to prove its lower Copper (most of the Cu in the fume comes from Cu in the steel and not the Cu coating) and then if Phoshor or Sulphur is good for you. After all that the fumes from welding are still toxic and the cu levels makes no difference as to whether you need fume extraction or not.........you do.....always

they were more expensive from our supplier and I had 2 INE BR that were tangled but looking to use the marathon packs if the wire is good

The spatter is a function of the steel composition, trust me I did years of research into it. If the steel has the right composition it doesnt much matter whats on the surface. Feeding smoothly is a pre-requisite obvioulsy.

No not a required effect. It is possible to MIG weld spatter free. What I mean is that certain impurities in the steel promote spatter. Also there is a perfect blance between the main alloying elements which will reduce the propensity to produce spatter.
So given the correct steel and the correct settings it is possible to weld completely spatter free.
This is when the welding is in spray mode. Spray mode tends to exaggerate everything. The effect is still relevant in dip but less pronounced.

I think thats a bit of poetic license. Im no expert so someone may come along and tell me Im wrong but as far as Im aware Bronze plating steel is only done for artistic reasons. The plating solution contains cyanide so there are obvious health and safety implications which I should imagine would be very costly and as such exclude its use from a price sensitive product such as Mig wire.
Also I can see no reason why Bronze should perform on the wire any better than Copper. I would expect Copper to be more conductive and as its softer it will be a better lubricant. So feeding and tip life should be better with Copper.

My personal view is that its someones attempt at providing something different.

They no longer do INE BR switched to lincon supra mig, just swapped to esab ok aristorod 12.50 from a different supplier

As I am sure Technic Al will confirm, there are very few wire producing steel mills in Europe anyway (prob even the world) so a lot of it can sometimes come from the same mill, with just a different name on the box.

I am not suggesting that in this instance, but having been a welder on the tools myself, I am sure all wire companies go through bad batches every now and again, even though they swear nothing is wrong/different.

Some brands are totally "bought in" which is why they often seem different, its because they are. They will buy from whoever is the cheapest. These are usually the ones with the false claims about Approvals.

Lincoln make wire for a few others. I dont know about Esab or INE.

Thats true, no-one is perfect and I believe Lincoln have someone who keeps interfering even though they arent well informed. Ive heard a few "rumours". Obvioulsy I dont know if they are true but based on my knowledge of the person involved I can well believe it.

Esab produce in Czech Republic. INE are Italian and I think they are still privately owned.
