Esab caddy 160i mig

So I've just purchased the caddy anyone used one? Not had long with it but seems to be a decent little machine settings go up to 4mm had some 6mm ANG once it warmed up it seemed to penetrate ok so it should do me fine, manage to get some nice beads down on the 2mm. I will get some more time on it an see if I can set it up a bit better an post a pic of results.

I have one and it has served me well. Mostly used on body work/ rust repairs to date and some exhaust work.
Never had to do anything much more than 3mm.

Do you change the volts knob or have you found a sweet spot can't seem to find it

I just leave it alone unless I'm welding something thicker than I should be. The mm knob seems close enough for what I am doing. I'm anything but a pro though lol

So is yours just set at 12 o clock then? Yeah the settings seem to be bob on and its a very easy machine to use

Cheers Anto, it certainly is Jim i really like it only downside for me is that you can't control the post flow as its air cooled so waste a bit of gas other than that cracking machine an on the + it's made in England

I think they can be modded to make postflow adjustable but bu@@ered if I can remember how now. I'll ask next time I'm on the phone to them.

Cheers Jim I'd appreciate that, I found it seems to work best set around 3 o clock anything thicker than 3mm an as you say 12 for anything smaller. Have you used .6 wire on it? Will I have to buy separate feed rollers to use .6 or is there a groove on the one I have? Cheers

If this is directed at me then no I haven't used any 0.6mm wire in it. Have never felt the need to as it does car body work fine on the 0.8mm.
I have a funny feeling it might be a 1mm/0.8mm roller but I may be getting confused with another welder I gave to my uncle.

Hey Jim Davey don't suppose you've found out how you go about modding the post flow on the Newarc have you? The Esab is an absolute belting machine had some good use with it now an feel I can vouch for it. At first I was running it on c02 and wernt greatly impressed with it found it splattered a hell of a lot an the penetration seemed poor on 3mm +. And the welds were really poor looking. So I hooked it up to my tig gas temporary but the welds just seem to sit really high and poor penetration them I got the argon mix which it should be run on an it was an absolute game changer I've welded up to 8mm with it and I'm happy with the penetration it's got in the thicker stuff welds are sitting nicely not much splatter it was worth every penny I paid for it. I've still not got round to seeing if you flip the roller around to use 0.6, there is a groove on the other side so I'm pretty confident that's what you do and don't have to buy a separate roller
