Esab Miggy 125 - 220/380v

Hi guys,
I purchased second hand Miggy 125 that is set on three phase (380v). I can see on schematics inside that it can be converted to 220V.
Does it mean that I can just change shortcuts according to scheme and use it as a single phase welder? I assume that I have to change cable to monophase and connect zero and phase to position 1 and 2 ?

I 'think' that's 3 phase 220 volt, you'll need.

I never heard for 3 phase 220v, 50Hz? (220V 60Hz yes but not for 50Hz as it is stated on front panel).

Voltage in Serbia​

The voltage in Serbia is 220-230 Volts with a frequency of 50Hz. The electric socket used is the European CEE7/7 "Schuko" wall outlet pictured to the left as well as its non-grounded equivalent, the European CEE7/16 "Europlug".

When those were made we had 3phase 380V, that was 3x220 V so rewired it would be 1x 220 V. No harm to run on 230V. I've still got mine and it runs fine on 400V 3 phase as we have now.

So you think that I can use it on 1x220v (one phase) or not? I dont have 3x380 ( or 3x220) in my workshop but only 1x220v

Not without re-wiring. I've read somewhere it is possible but can't find the information.

describes three distinct machines:
1. 220 - 240v 50Hz single-phase
2. 220 - 380v 50Hz three-phase
3. 220v 60Hz three-phase ( i.e. for USA )

From the data plate and the diagram, your machine is the second version - i.e. three-phase.

The jumpers set the three windings into "Y" ( or "Star" ) for use on 380 volts, and Delta for 220 volts. If you set them into the "220" positions and then connect Live and Neutral of a 220 volt single-phase supply to positions 1 and 2, power will be applied to one 220v winding which is shunted in parallel by two more 220v windings in series. The magnetic fields induced into the three secondary windings are going to be ineffective, so there will probably be minimal output from the transformer.

Thanks, now it is clear to me. This welder has to change workshop :-)
