Looking to get back into welding at a hobby level. My tig welding stood out in college as my best out of the 4x processes that we learned and tig covers all of the things that I would want to do so I am looking for a second hand DC tig machine between about 160 and 200A for not more than about £400. In college we were spoiled with expensive 300A Miller machines, can't remember the models. Reading around suggest that brands like ESAB, Parweld, Thermal Arc, Jasic and R-Tech are the better quality brands at the low to mid end of the market unless I have been taken in by their marketing etc. Between these brands is there one that stands out as having the best reliability and the best quality arc / ease of controlling the arc? By reliability I mean internal components lasting a long time if not abused and as regards arc quality / ease of control I know that different models will have different features which will affect this a lot but for comparable feature sets does one brand stand out as usually being the best (or worst) or at this end of the market does the quality vary wildly with the individual model regardless of the brand?
