euro conversion on snapon 130

Hi all

I got fed up with my handle and not having it long enough. Also it would never feed correctly. Gas would come on but wire wouldn't feed then it would.


So I bought a 15 euro conversion kit. Have connected all the bits. And the welder works but the gas switch in the old torch was manual with the trigger.

So I need a gas solenoid. Bought one from this website store along with tips and shroud.


Where do I connect the 3 pins to?? One is the negative, does it matter where I wire it?

Other two have no idea.

Is the valve (coil) a 240v or 24 (AC or DC) ??

Yes that is the one iI have.

The white device on yours (black on pic I posted) is the contactor (just think big ass relay!) it should "pull in" with a clunk when the trigger is pulled. If you CAREFULLY meter (meter set to AC volts) it you should be able to find a pair of wires coming OUT of it that produce 240Vac when trigger pulled and then disappear when trigger is released. Once found you can connect the two connections of your gas valve to these connections. NOTE the third connection on the valve is for an earth connection (should have the ground symbol on it).
Does that make sense ??

Yes that makes lots of sence thank you .
OK will use my meter to have a look today.
With the earth, do I connect it to the case or to the earth clamp connection.

With the euro conversion in place, when I put the cover back on the unit. And I try welding the earth clamp sparked. What would cause this?

I can't seem to find a voltage on anything. I get 170 on one and the other is like 11.

you wire it across the two smaller wires on the contactor. They are a bit fiddly. this then energises the gas solenoid at the same time as the contactor. check out this thread its the same welder

As per Mr Rik's post.
You EARTH connection to the gas valve IF you choose to connect it would need a length of cable to go to the machines chassis using a crimped eyelet. Quite often the earth is not used and the connection left blank as the valve is contained INSIDE a metal box (the welder!).
One of the reasons you welding GROUND clamp may be sparking is if it is one of the cheep car type jump lead croc clamp they can become rusty and the teeth don't make a good contact with the metal. Some have made there own clamps or replaced with decent ones.

Right all is working atm . Woop as you can see from the photo.
I have a 300 or a 400amp earth clamp from machine mart. Have all new wire too up to 180 amps or something. It did only do it when the case was on. But there wasn't anything touching from what I could see.

Yer and omg the difference this euro conversion has made. It actually makes a difference when I turn up the wire feed it makes a bigger pool. :O.
