If your torch can be disconnected at the machine with a screw collar, then it is probably a euro type. Otherwise you can get a kit to convert. Best thing I did for my Kemppi, after ages of problems with the original. (my fault after it fell on it's face)
Thanks for all the replies,I stripped the torch down and couldn't really find anything wrong with it, the main problem is the power supply is tripping out as soon as I fire it up.
It has a designated 20amp supply that only has 2 flourecence lights on the circuit with it.
Could this be a problem with the unit? or is the culprit the torch,
I am reluctant to buy a new torch if the welder itself is faulty, how can I check it out (I'm not an electrician)? If I take it to the local repairer I'm sure he will have some reason to supply various expensive parts, he tried to charge my mate over 100.00+ vat for a new torch on his Tig when you can get them for 39.00 on the net.
I know I sound a cheapskate but money is tight at the moment.
Any advise welcome.
It's unlikely that the tourch would cause the trip to go. I assume when you say "the power supply is tripping out as soon as I fire it up" You mean you switch welder on and it's ok, you then press the trigger to weld and that's when it trips or is it when the wire touches the work piece. If it does this even on the lowest setting then there most prob a fault in welder. If you still want to rule out the tourch and it's a euro type then remove it from machine inc the welding wire up through the middle of it (cut it and secure it on the wire spool to stop it unwinding!!) Now if you look at the socket that the tourch pluged into there will be 2 small holes (about 1mm) that 2 pins from the tourch went into. These are the connections to the tourch trigger switch. With the welder switched on if you now using a paper clip or short length of cpper wire short/bridge these 2 holes it will be like you are pressing the trigger on the tourch, so welder will try to operate. Does this cause the trip to trip?.
