EUTECTRODE 690SF Question

As above Ive altered some hubs (cast steel?) and turned a mild steel disc and welded them to the hub, Now I need to turn one side of the weld flush as there was a good sized prep and still be loads of weld in the prep,
The problem is it seems mental hard when on the lathe are these rods meant to be machinable? If not can anyone recommend a better solution as i will be needing to do a few but they need to be strong as they are for my stockcar and will need to be good for 600-700 bhp and similar torque as well as its full contact.
I used dissimilar rods with not knowing the composition of the hub but just assumed that they would turn OK.

Is the rod a 312 grade. I think it is but I cant remember that particlar brand name. If it is it will be 850 n/mm2 tensile so it will be tough, not that hard but it work hardens so the more unsuccessful you are the worse it gets. Understand me. If you try to mahine it and its not going well it wont get any better. Best results are from a grinding wheel lathe attcahment.

Im not sure if the rod is 312 grade AL, From the carton I can make out as follows.

Sounds like it, and I know Eutectics most famous product is 680 which is a 312. The mechnanicals fit the bill and the composition should be 29 Cr 9 Ni ( or 30/10).

You need either a very sharp Carbide cutter or a grinding attachment.

P.S. AL
Do you know of a better electrode for the application that would be strong but easier to machine.(Bearing in mind of the possibly dissimilar properties??.)

Inconel 625 may be better but its still tough. Problem is that the high strength doesnt bode well for machining so you have to compromise.

You can probably get away by using a 309L but the strength of the weld wont be as high. It will probably be similar to the mild steel part though.
