evening all.
pete here, from northampton way.
i used to build farm and industrial biuidings, but hane,nt for about fifteen year.
ive been a selfemployed chippy since then, always kept me hand in doing the odd little bit of arc welding we a murex invertor.
im in the proscess of trying to find somewhere local that does aly and stainless coarses.
does anyone know of any round northampton/leisecter way?

im thinking of getting a second hand mig, and and getting back into welding proper again instead of the wood work.

been getting a few prices for steel today, jees its gone up! and the comps can only hold there quotes for two or three days!!

yes steel has gone up its best to shop around some seem a lot more expensive then others.

if you are making a living from the woodwork i wouldnt just drop it the way things are at the moment. its hard enough to keep going let alone start out on something new

im not making a living out of woodwork!

thats why im thinking of getting back into steel fab, only smallish items, i have a few ideas.

and i have a workshop that i use and have to pay for.

well if you have to pay for space you may aswell make the space pay, nothing ventured nothing gained is what i say

this is true, and seen as i have all me kit in the one unit i can drop onto either job.

Farm buildings eh. F&IB or Burrows maybe?,
Northampton College on Booth lane do a Tig welding course, possibly Moulton college as well, they usually start in the autumn though and run through the winter, what sort of things are you thinking of making, not being nosy just interested, 90% of my work is stainless or Ally.

was at burrows for ten year. very old school place to work for! enjoyed it.
phoned moulton they dont do any coarse, but yes, booth lane does, but i dont know northampton to well!!
and your right they dont start till sept, need to look into it near the time.
the things i have in mind of making are out of mild steel, and im keeping them under me hat for a while.
as for aly and stainless its something ive always wanted to learn.
i have a bit to do with narrowboats, so might be handy for that, as i said just something i would like to learn, you want a unpaid apprentice a couple of days a week?
