Everyman Oil

Hi
I wonder how many forum users have come across Everyman oil?
It was made by Castrol, and I for one used it in preference to the ubiquitous 3in1

I understand that, although it's still listed on the Castrol website, it was discontinued by Castrol about seven years ago.
My question is: does anyone have any recommendations for an alternative other than 3in1; which I always found tended to promote, rather than prevent, rusting?

I have seen that but never used it.
My recommendation for an alternative would be gun oil. It has the property to creep over surfaces it is applied to and is first class at preventing corrosion, as it would be expected with it's intended purpose to protect guns. I always have a can handy even though I no longer own a shotgun.

I've never had a problem with 3-in-1 oil, I don't know where you got yours from but it's never caused rust on anything I own although it is a lubricant not a preservative. I tend to use whatever is on the shelf nowadays and at the moment it is a tin of Rapide multi lube from a pound shop.

Same here. It'll not help too much in preventing rust, but it works as expected for a lubricant. Regarding oils, I just make up a mix with any bits of clean engine oil that I have knocking about.

Thanks for the response guys.
I've come across Kroil gun oil and that really stinks; and Young’s 303 (.303??)
I'll certainly have a look in the pound shop next time I'm in there, I hadn't thought of them as a source.
I might try some "home formulation" too.
For penetrating oil, for freeing off stubborn nuts / bolts, I use a home blend - red diesel (don't know if it has to be cherry) paraffin and standard 20/50.
I did have a proper "recipe" at one time but can't find it, so it’s about 50 - 50 red diesel and paraffin with a splash of oil. Seems to work tolerably well.
