A decent welder will be able to cope with a gap much bigger than 2mm. They probably won't be particuarly happy though as when things fit properly distortion is much easier to control. Stainless pulls like mad given the chance and a good fit up = less heat needed + smaller weld = less weld shrinkage, less movement

I have just finished making up an exhaust s/s, I have let the tube into another
tube at 90 Deg's and would like to know what is the biggest gap I can get away
with for tig welding it up.
