Eye Tech II - Mono 10-11 Stopped Working

Hello all,

I've not used this for a while and it has just stopped working! It doesn't darken under bright lights or an arc.

It has been slow in the past, but usually after a short time (either near an arc or in sunlight), it seems to have enough power to start to work, but today, no more!

The darkening unit appears sealed and it is now obsolete!

Any suggestions please?

It’s probably got a button cell/cells inside which has died.
You may be able to open the cartridge, replace any batteries and reseal it.
Another option, if you can get it open, is to solder in an external battery carrier so you can easily replace it/them in future.
Failing that, if the cost of a genuine cartridge is prohibitively expensive you might be able to find a Chinese one that will fit.

Go and chuck it in the sun light for an afternoon. It quite often revives them.

All, thank you. A bit of sunbathing and it's working again. I contacted ESAB support and they just tried to sell me a new one. Quite disappointed with them really..

In all honesty and no disrespect it was one of the worst esab masks they ever bought out and it wasn’t around long before they realised and discontinued it. It will do for a splat but If your doing a fair bit of welding I’d replace it while it’s working. The original eye tech was great but the 2 was designed after a major drinking session by the look of it. Very unbalanced weight right at the front. Very uncomfortable Prone to failures the lenses are expensive if you can still get them.

I use it purely for hobby welding, so I can live with it quite happily. In fact that is probably the issues, I don't wear it enough to keep the cells charged.

The EyeTech II was discontinued a fair few years back and replaced by either the NewTech or AristoTech. Even if the cartridge failed, it's well out of warranty hence them trying to sell you a new lid.

Loads of helmets on the market, just depends on your budget.
