Fairy nice

I was asked to make a sculpture of a fairy to go on the wall at an old people's home as part of a sensory garden. About 1.2m top to bottom.
I used to design this kind of thing so was happy to get involved, we looked at some simple art work ad a design was selected.
I scaled it up with an old OHP (great things) and cut it out with the plasma cutter then took it off to get it zinc plated.
Yesterday mid paragliding session (between flights) I answered my phone. 'She aint lookin' too good but shes done'. Panicky thoughts ensued.
Went to scope out the damage today, she did not look too good, streaky and blotchy, not good. I was asked to pay a nominal fee and was happy to do that. I did try a blob of spit and quick rub and the result was promising.
Took her back to base and 'By The Power of WD40' she was reborn.

A massive relief, she came out lovely.

Drew them in marker pen very carefully, then cut around the lines, cock it up and be careful to keep it looking right.It is easy to cut out the negative image by mistake.
I usually do this sat down but she was too big for that.
One of those jobs where I have to be in the right frame of mind, relaxed and focussed, then whack the sounds right up and whizz through it.
the image was found on the internet, then I had to reproportion it to get it to fit it in my platers tank.
I was so relieved when I got her cleaned up.

I don't use plasma enough to get good at it,lol
would love a OHP though,would make things alot easier displaying images on steel rather than trying to draw it on.

OHP's?Brilliant devices for those of who cant draw. Cheap on fleabay as well.
I made up a huge blackboard that I use for drawing outlines on, so scale the picture up then fine tune it and build on top of it. I chopped it half after it fell on me and bolt it together across the middle.

What I do when I have to reproduce full scale artwork was to print it onto A4 acetate and then use the good old OHP just like chunkolini says.
however you have to be careful when you project large stuff like a backcloth ,say for stage 'cos it's soo easy to distort the image.
As a failsafe I project on to a snapline grid , and work it from that till it looks right..jeff...

I used to print them now I just trace them from paper onto the acetate, my printer does not like the clear film very much.
I picked the idea up from a friend who does a lot of stage work.
I was surprised to find that three dimensional work can be done this way.
Project the outline, chalk it in and build the 3D model on top.

Yep ,I've 3d stuff like that with carving ,....a bit like a sliced loaf ....It gives you a guide when imagining a shape in free space ...jeff...
