fan extractor flexible pipe...

caught fire this afternoon.
I was grinding away and the extractor fan was on .
all dust that accumulated over the years started to smolder(about 12 years)
the flex pipe is one of those that are used in toilets .
had to rip it all out.
its a good job it it did while I was in the garage.
so the question is the extractor fan is the one you have over the gas stove in the house.
pipe size is bigger or smaller .
I had a 4" one in so just wondering if the next size up would be better or smaller.
its about 2.5 mtr in all long with a vent with a flap.

most cooker hoods are 5 or 6 inch but a 4 inch will work fine without restricted flow at such a short length

if u wanna clean up air bourne dust...try one of these...made from an old bathroom ventaxia...skip diving again.....hahaha....
the the filter is from a big Scania rescued from another skip....mine's mounted on the strip lamp chains and connected via this garden one way plug n socket...(I've used a thumb switch from a bedside lamp)....so I'm able to take it down to clean without elec probs....easy enough to adapt for wall mounting....
NOTE, the air and dust come's thru the outside of the filter, clean air exits via the fan....
think this fan does about 10m3 per hour.....my dust is wood so if it gets a bit heavy I use another one at the other end of the shop....
easy enough to clean with an air line outside....
so it's cheap to make and run, quiet and suprisingly efficient....the other plus point, taking it's power from the light u'll never leave it on.....
in my next place there will be a thickness sander as well, so this fan will be bought new with a timer....of course a diff power source....

Lint fires in clothes dryers, and their extractors, biggest cause of fires on ships offshore. We had inspections and cleaning written into our ships planned maintenance systems, it had to be legally signed off by a qualified person each month.

its less than 2 mtrs long is the pipe. its not a dust extractor but fumes. so I'll see if I can fit a filter between the extracto

r top and pipe
