finally got my inverter and first welds!!

ok after many pm's and asking loads of questions i bought...........

an oerlikon miniarc 4.0i dc inverter got it in the end from a local supplier who invited me over to have a good look and a go (i declined) was a great price, free delivery and got a cpl extras as well

25 of the 3.2 mm overkord z rods
a roll of .8mm murex mig wire
here it is anyway small light, 150 amp @25%, 100 amp at 100% will need to get the scratch tig leads/hose for it later cash a bit short for that as well lol.

first welds labelled in order 1 - 4
welds 2 (already starting to get rid of its slag)and 3 were done at about 83 amps using oerlikon overkord z 3.2 mm rods weld 1 was using just under 100 amps weld 4 was just trying to make a square getting used to moving the rod around

after chipping look a bit better

please tell me what you think and any pointers
i must admit it is very therapeutic sitting outside burning a few rods

hey, nice machine and nice welds , only thing i can reccomend tho is that they look abit tall and skinny, turn the amps up to around 120 amps and see how you get on, also try some joints

ps, those electrode holders are quite flimsey, replace it with a twist type if youve got the spare cash/ time

Oerlikon, is part of the Air Liquide group (Pronounced Air Lickeede) Perhaps Sparky will help on the French pronounciation . They are French, huge company, French equvilent of BOC, Linde, Air Products etc they also own, Cemont, and SAF brand names.

i have the guard lol i just took it off to cut a propane bottle valve wouldn't fit between the handle with it on!
did wear goggles though

hi, oerlikon, cemont and citroarc are popular over in ireland. was a big crowd, english i think, called unidare, the old man served his time with them, and where tied in with above mentioned names. unidare is long gone out of dublin now though, oerlikon still have offices though.

It does look like a nice piece of kit. I see from the spec that it's rated down to 5A, have you tried it that low down yet? and if you did it give a steady arc?

hi there the 5amp is for the scratch tig function i believe

it needs a wp9v valved torch by the look of it but not sure on the connection as they seem to be different connections to those twisty ones i have on the machine??

hi, fronius do a great little scratch tig tourch that can be used with an inverter.
