Fire extinguisher recycling

Hi All

Between the house and the workshop, I've got several fire extinguishers (domestic size) that now are past their use-by date.

I've tried websearching for solutions to recycling or reconditioning these, but haven't found anything yet.

Anyone know who might recycle or recharge them?

There are companies which do mobile filling, testing etc
Sometimes an independant company, but seen a few that do it as a side line along with alarm systems etc...

I have no idea how economical it is compared to replacing with a new one im afraid.

Some new extinguishers are offered on an 'exchange' basis...

i have a full size extinguisher (water) that i can refill with 9 litres of water and just pressurise with a tyre inflator

Don't know about the UK but here is Oz our extinguishers have a little dial that has red,yellow, green zones - so long as the needle is in the green zone it's OK. My son the fireman says small units are not worth recharging as the cost outways replacement. We used to have Yellow coloured cylinders but they have been banned as the gas damaged the ozone layer. - his attitude on those was how environmental you are - they still put out fires.
