the fillet is very good that looks like 10 mill plate so you would need about three runs like 3rs said my guess would be that was a 3.2 rod I would probably do the next two runs with 4 mill rods
not bad for your first attempts at verticals I've seen a lot worse also looks like a 3.2 rod
2.5 might have been a bit easier for the first run preferably 7018 or 7016 or decent 6013
it also helps when you're learning to slope the joint off 90 degrees makes it a little easier untill they get used to it then work your way up to 90°
it probably feels like you have more power on ac because it splatters and crackles a lot more
Your flat fillet is very good, try putting three runs down
heres a bit of a guide:-
1. lay your 1st bead as you have done.
2. your 2nd bead will be layed on the toe of the fillet and about half way up the 1st pass
3. Your 3rd pass will be "stacked" on the top toe of the 2nd fillet and cover the other half of the 1st pass.
Your vertfillet is nearly there but you need more practice "it aint easy" It looks like your juice is to hot.
1. have your juice set about 90-100 amps and go straight up (NO weaving) your angle of attack should be about 70-80 of the 90 degree.
2. your 2nd, drop your juice or keep it the same (depends on your self) drop the angle even more say about 10-15 degree of your first pass. Keep a VERY tight arc and do not pause in the middle.
you should feel the weld as you move from left to right or right to left. If you find you have slag inclusion you are either moving to quick or you may be slighty of the angle.
Also what size of rods are you using?
