Not quite finished yet. But does anyone know a good leather worker who might be interested in making my sheaths?
Fixed blade 01 tool steel, walnut and brass pins, for a deer stalkers friend
I don't use a specific belt type grinder. I have a posh bench grinder and a selection of flat stones and hand / power handle tools. What sort of grinder do you have ?

Really need to be looking at more automation but this isn't a company venture, just something to fill those odd days waiting for suppliers or getting bored on the sofa at weekends in the off season
Forgot about them guys, thanksHave you looked on britishblades? Loads of folk on there that could help you out
ThanksI have a friend who does leather work; she does a very good job. I can try and put you in touch
Thanks but I am really looking for quality in keeping with the higher endSheaths aren't that hard I've done a couple and they come out nicely. Get some 3mm veg tan leather, I buy it from the identity store in Matlock. Make a template in paper, cut it out in leather. Make a welt so you don't cut the stitches and mark your stitches with a stitch wheel then drill through the leather and sew it from both sides with two needles. I wrap the knife in cling film and wet the sheath then form it round the knife with a piece of dowel and leave it to dry. They hold the knife really securely wit a nice click when it is pushed home.

Don't know what you mean by that comment about quality of blade. The knife pictured is far from finished at the stage shown. Think I have found a guy now ashdown forest crafts.A bit of practise, some dye and some stamps and you could soon turn out something with a bit of flash. If you go on BB you will see the quality of blades that are worth a high end sheath. I used to read and went to a few meets on there and made a couple of folding knives but I don't do knives now. I still put handles, got some nice Snake wood and black Buffalo horn and a few blades and I whittle spoons and do a few walking sticks.
I did a handle for a friend of mine. It was Partridge wood in line with his shooting hobby, fitted to a Damascus blade he bought at a gun fair. When he got it back he decided it was too nice to use and has it mounted on the mantlepiece It has Nickel pins and lanyard hole, brass is so 1970.
Have you heard about these new proposals with regard to buying knives online?

Yes, I know it's the sun...
It's all bull from MPs who think if they make yet another law criminals will start to obey it like they don't all the others.Waste of time the amount of kitchen knives used in crime is far higher than any 'illegal' knife
Independent article, note 8weeks later knife crime returned pre-amnesty numbers (2006)
