Thanks JeffThats great, I love the --ripply-- scaley-- ripples-- look jeff...
It was very hot it was all 6mm round bars and I gas welded them together to get the scale effect, took a while too. Thanks for the tip I'll give that a go if I do anotherTidy, I bet the body was horrible work, I imagine the whole thing would have been red hot.
Top tip, to get a nice spine up the dorsal fin and tail cut the oversized, lay a bead of weld to make the spine and grind it back to the weld and it leaves a nice 3d spine.
it was it took a good few hours but I did do it bit by bit to give it chance to cool a bit.was wondering how you got that concave look, sounds very time consuming
Yeah it would have been much quicker with the mig but I've got oxy acetylene that I use for cutting and brazing more than anything and I thought it would be a nice change to do a bit of gas welding.Gas welded them? that must have been horrendous.
You can get an almost identical effect using mig, if you space the bars a bit further apart and turn the welder up fairly high and use an exaggerated weave, you can generate an undercut along the edge of the bars.
That is lovely, I bet everybody who sees it has to touch it. That to me means it has had an effect on them.
