First time spray painting

Finally made us of my spray gun I got with the compressor for the first time, the paint I am using is waterbased Dulux weathershield. I have Cellulose but I don't have a water trap/proper regulator or the right cartridge mask (I held my breath).

The paint has been left about 2 hours to dry (it's tacky). Now from looking at that close up I notice orange peel in the texture, which isn't the worst thing in the world but I'd rather avoid it. Also am I right in saying the specks are overspray?

Apart from getting the right equipment, which is something I plan to do, based on those pictures what ought I do to improve the quality of the finishing.

The spray gun I used was a cheap gravity fed gun which was included with the compressor when I bought it, obviously given the money I'd buy a Devilbiss but I'm a student and not on a great deal of money I'm afraid.

I am about as far from an expert as you can get but I have been reading up on spraying for my own attempts. I think orange peel can either be becau the paint is too thickly applied or it is drying before it settles. Either way thinning more might help. How are you measuring the viscosity?

B&Q do carbon filtered masks for £15 you know.

You can also get a very good 3M mask 06941 for under £15 too.
Peel can be too much pressure or too little, or just coats too heavy/wet. Hard to tell from the pic but some looks like heavy peel but others bits almost looks like little 'reaction' divots - guess its just the light picking up bits though.

Don't need an expensive gun to lay paint nicely, although it can make a difference with fancier paints like pearls etc. Like the mini-gun I used most was less than £20, just replaced it with a £15 one.
If you get a mask you'll be able to concentrate far better on seeing how the gun's adjustment affects things, and seeing how the paint goes down.

First thing that struck me was, though the pic is not the best. Fish eyes. did someone spray WD40 in the workshop in the same day as it was sprayed?? Show a pro painter a can of WD and it will have a similar effect as chalk on the blackboard. Just a short squirt and you may as well shut up for the day.

It definitely looks like fish eyes, was the surface ever polished before you painted on it ? Wax polishes, silicon or oil can contaminate your finish or even water spots if your line is unfiltered.
