First timer, late starter.

Morning all
Thought I'd introduce myself - I'm Si, a car geek from the midlands.
I've wanted to learn to weld for years, and a bit of cash for my 30th means I can set aside something for the kit I need.
I've been pottering about with 90's Japanese cars for a while, and my current ongoing project is an RX7.
I am looking to buy a MIG set and learn with that, with some of the first projects being welding up holes in the bay to smooth it out, bracket construction for component relocations, and a few other bits and bobs.

I'm looking at something like a SH 150a Clarke, as after lots of reading that would seem to be a reasonable choice for my application and budget (circa £250 for all the kit I need, but I can add to that if needs be).

Welcome to the forum, I think your choice of welder is about as good as you can get for the £'s mentioned, a trip to the scrappy for some 2mm or 3mm sheet offcuts would be a good idea, then once the welds are getting right move to some thinner stuff.

Welcome, there plenty of car restos & mods on here. That budget would get you a new 151TE I think (not sure if better than the 150a though). They're good welders, s/h ones sell fast.

Welcome to the forums mate, do a search and find yourself some make it yourself plans for various sheet metal tools, they will give you some good welding experience and some fabrication practice, the bonus is you`ll wind up with some useful tools as well

Late starter? 30th? Try doubling that! At least you won't have to have varifocal READING glasses to see the weld.
