flagpole how do i?

been asked to make flagpole for my scout troop as we cant afford to buy one.
it needs be approx 8ft in middle no probs here is where im stuck.
it needs a pulley so we can run the flag up.
anyone done similar thing?

side bits are easy as they only need to poles.

At the bottom you have the thing to tie off to,forget the name,they use them on sailing boats.
You have a continuos loop of rope and crimp the flag attachments to it,with a stop,just above the top one.
Attach the flag,run it up,and tie it off.

A cleat. You could buy one, or just make one out of a bit of bar and weld it straight on. This style is very easy to make.

I'd not fix the pulley to the top of the pole, they do wear out over time and may well need replacing. I'd put an eye in the side of the pole, at the top, and shackle the pulley on to that, so you can take it down/replace/service it etc.

A lot now have a hinge at the bottom so you can lower the pole to fit the flag.

I cheated and bought an 18ft. telescopic aluminium flagpole off eBay for £20.; it came with 2 flags and a plastic ground socket.

whats wrong with a length of scaffold pole & an eye?

Base a lenght of pole in concrete & a socket connector?

plenty strong, easy to take down if the need arises, cheap & easy to replace if it gets bent or nicked
