Flasher relay

Hi all, I'm after a little help from the collective. I need a neat easy solution to make a couple of 12 LEDS flash for my crane projet. I could build a flasher using a 555 timer but this will use up time I don't really have with the Xmas deadline fast approaching.

The criteria is cheap, quick delivery and silent running so solid state device.

So ideally I'd like to use something like this http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/272345314231 but I'm not familiar with 2 wire flasher relays. do they just wire in series with the load or am I missing something?

you know you can get ones that flash without any add on's? would that do?

Wife got a string of Christmas deco led's from the £ shop, they seem to flash well, 3 x AA batteries, perhaps whatever is controlling them will do you, think they had several versions.

the 555 option should tale less than an hour. there will be thousands of circuits to choose from.
Or get Xmas tree lights

To use the unit you linked to, connect "B" to +12V supply, "L" to + side of LEDs (wire LEDs in parallel) and - side of LEDs back to - (0V) supply.

Ah so it is in series, I'll go for that then.

That was my preference but no one seems to do 10mm amber flashing LEDs

The flasher unit in the OP may make a clicking noise though. Not sure about bikes, but car indicators have to have an audible warning, normally generated in the flasher. Might be as well to ask.

These are only 5 mm though. I need 10mm diameter

I'm going to run about 3 or 4 and hopefully 10mm may pull enough.
I have the LEDs already so I'll stick my DMM in line to check.

10mm 12V LED's will probably draw about 25mA (0.025A) each so 2 or more should be enough

If not simple flip flop circuits are easy to knock up which would give two different flashes and only use 6 cheap components

I'm going to run about 3 or 4 and hopefully 10mm may pull enough.
I have the LEDs already so I'll stick my DMM in line to check.

Wish I'd seen them before I ordered the others.

Ill go for the relay then they'll all flash together

This should do you - I've knocked a really simple flasher up to flash a couple of leds on and off, it's almost finished. Feel free to copy the design, it's pretty simple and the program is only about 8000 lines long. No need for any of that fancy eBay nonsense.
