Flatting 2k direct gloss

I have my mini main shell painted in almond green direct gloss but have some orange peel and dust nibs to deal with, I have tried flatting with p2000 on a rubber sanding block on my bootlid for practice but I can't feel when the paper picks up until damage is done, I have changed technique and just using the palm of my hand to flatten,using this method I can feel as soon as anything sticks to the paper and prevent any scratches, it appears to be going ok and I have then polished with g3 and it looks fine, does anyone else wet sand this way as all the guides I read advise against it but I can't get a good result any other way, blocks when flatting primer was no problem,is there a better block than the rubber one

Use the w&d 2000 with warm water and a squirt of washing up liquid

Use something a bit coarser to get the peel off then 2000 then g3, Polish and then a few layers of wax

shouldnt really be any picking up issues

keep things stupidly clean , rinse the paper and block often and change the water , id suggest you have a sports style drink bottle with warm soapy water and trickle water onto the paper all the time to help lube it and also flush away any grit that might find its way in

also work somewhere quiet and you should hear any problems

no real issues with using your hand..id try to use a small block with 1200 to flatten the specks , then whip over it by hand with 1500-2000

finishing by hand is allways the best

id also start to look at the reason you are getting orange peel in the first place, mixing paint, air pressure, distance from panel and output from gun also temperature

It's my first attempt at painting so a bit of orange peel is to be expected it's not bad just a few areas, I am using washing up liquid and water so think I will continue by hand as it's far easier to feel what's happening. Thanks for advice though

farecla g3 is a polishing compound to restore old faded /flatted paint

its been around longer then that I remember using it in the 80s and just had a look on their web site
