Evening guys.
What tooling do you guys use in a flypress to fold/bend metal ....

I have a holder which takes a selection of V section forms, gang them up for the length you want. Standard V channel underneath. Got a picture of it here but this isn't how I typically use it

Right..I see..I have finally got my self a big fly press..been after one for ages...so will be getting ideas for tooling ect. Hopefully picking it up Monday...

Fly press tooling is dead easy to make, over the years I have made loads for different jobs, vee's and top tooling can be made from flat bar using just a thin disc on a grinder and a sanding disc to put the angles on, unless you are into mass production they don't need to be hardened, next time I'm in the workshop I'll take a picture of a couple of simple bending tools,

Here's one of them making a small square to round,

And another one being used to roll some ladder hoops from 8mm thick flat bar

Just out of interest, this is what I was bending it for.

Bandstand shed (so that it's not a shed!)

Didn't work as such, the Flypress was nowhere near powerful enough to bend that virtually solid tube. But it put a couple of decent dings into it. I did try some more widely spaced rollers under it but eventually just pulled it into square with something else.

Old knackered pressbrake tooling is good - if a length gets a ding in it it is useless so gets chucked/scrapped. Cut into bits it makes good flypress tooling

Some good ideas guys.. will go to my local metal suppliers as they still use a fly press. Might be able to source some old bits...

For me absolutely the best feature is punching holes in sheet. Super clean, super easy.

I should do a thing on it I suppose, I have a mountain of Flypress tooling, including some very unusual bits and bobs. If you look carefully at the first pic, you can see where I was playing with a dome tool.

Yes that would be cool to do a thred ..can't wait to get it back home...it will open up a whole new world of things that I can make. I gave £110 for it...it's a big press. Will get some pics posted..it's not damaged or broken. Just needs a paint and a service..

This is the fly press I got.its a Norton db8 . Unfortunately not a deep throat one but had to have it.

Here's a video on a very simple and incredibly useful adjustable tool I made for my flypress. Unless you're making collars I wouldn't weld the wings on the sides as it's more versitile without them.
