I intend to vacate a rented lock-up as the costs (£50 pm) are getting too much seeing it's just used for storage. That means my Austin Sprite will have to go on the patio until I manage to tidy things up / sell motorbikes (I can no longer ride) - carport and home garage are already full !
The Sprite needs restoration but isn't in bad condition and I don't want it to deteriorate whilst outside so intend making a folding garage like this -
We live in an exposed / windy area so rather than having a custom made cover I'm thinking of cladding in Correx held on with cable ties and then draping a tarp over the lot.
Regular access won't be needed - this is mainly preparing for winter ! The Sprite has a hardtop so reasonably watertight - compared to soft top !
I've already a load of new 25mm galv. conduit to make the frame.
It'd be nice if the frame could be properly made so it folds flat when car uncovered and could also be used with a better cover after car restored. That means some thought needs to go into the main hinge design and this is the area where I'd welcome any ideas.
Normally such folding frames simply are drilled through the tubes and bolted thus creating a weak point. I'm thinking maybe reinforcing the area with couplers
thread locked in position.
Tee joints with reducing bushes for the pivot bolts would be nice but I can't find any other than inspection Tee's.
Any ideas / opinions.
