Folding Fire Pit

I need to make a folding/collapsible fire pit to take with me on an overland trip later in the year. My intention was to use 4mm steel, but I'd appreciate advice on steel thickness. Also, should I coat the steel or leave it to acquire it's own patina?

I suggest 3mm maximum although 2mm will last for ages. I have still to find a coating that stands up to massive heat cycles and weather so leaving it to acquire a natural, corroded look is cheapest and probably best. Unless you go for stainless.

Thanks for that, I'll go for 3mm in that case. Will go for the natural patina methinks - deffo not stainless

make yourself a grill out of angle iron and 2 bars

cut at angles for the pit fire space them enough so air can get through but allow ashes to fall through 10mm gaps rough idea

and then just weld a bar at rear of them on either side

lifts the flame away from the bottom and burns better but try yours first
