this bench is for a mobile machine shop it needs to be small and compact for travel but not really portable as it will be mounted inside a trailer
i was thinking of a base was collapsible into the area were it meets a wall behind it and the top would be made of two sets of steel bars that are interlocking in the middle and slide away from one another so that i have a gap every inch if i were to use 1 inch square beam or 1.25 inch if i go a bit bigger with 1.25 inch square beam this table would shrink down to the size of the welder under it to allow for easy storage as its
so if i were to use 2 different sizes of beam to form a sleeve type system on the bottom and the top if i were cut a slot into each piece with 2 bolts and nuts holding each set together using square beam that was cold rolled with 1/4 inch wall thickness and welding another piece of 1/4 inch steel to the sides above and bellow the slot would this hold items ranging from 100 pounds to small parts if plate steel was was placed on top also would adding a copper coating to the work surface be of any help or even a copper tungsten http://www.tungsten.com/tungsten copper alloy.pdf
i want to have a good connection to my work and not have to leave Clamp marks on sheet metal nor have to waste time on figuring out how to clamp onto larger block shaped objects that are heavy enough to clamp them selves to the bench also do i need to isolate the case of my welder from the bench if i were to use reverse polarity from time time and do some welders have a secondary grounding screw to ground a bench to improve grounding would i have to add a terminal for that
