Vista wasn't great at launch but once it was patched it became a solid OS and paved the way for 7.

Wish this trend to make pcs more phone like or iOS like would end.


Could have happily stayed on 7 but had to take the plunge to 10 for obvious reasons

Funnily enough, Windows 95 and 98 got a new lease of life, security wise, once WinXP had become established as most of the viruses, trojans etc. tried to exploit code and features that were only in XP (like C$ and \\machine-name)

Mmmmmmmm..... yeeeeeeeeeeessssss..... but a lot of unpatched exploits on Win7 ... Win11 and everything in between will likely work on XP, too, as the core platform (win32) is exactly the same.

How do you know there are no problems with no AV/malware software to report them? We've moved on a lot from the loud&flashy viruses of yore that suddenly started spamming web pages all over your PC - today's malware goes out of its way to be silent and invisible, as it wants to capture your passwords, files, emails, etc. and transmits them back to base. A trojan that targets Windows 10 is probably going to work on an XP machine, too.

I have Windows 7 on my PC. Its as slow as molasses, but I prefer it to the Win 10 I had (briefly) on an Asus all-in-one. I eventually killed that thing after a years ownership, it was so pitifully slow and cumbersome.

I used Vista for years without problem and we had 2000 on another machine which was a solid performer.
