Ford 1170 side valve water inlet

Hi folks,
I called in to see Andreas, my friend who runs Cyprus Classic Motorcycle museum, he has an early Morgan 4/4 with a ford side valve 1170.

He asked my advice on repairing the lower water inlet pipe that has corroded away.

Corroded end is middle right of photo. I was thinking cut it off flush with the block then perhaps braze on? a short length of pipe that I can turn to suit. What do folk think? If it was me, I would take the engine out and machine out the bore for the water inlet pipe and machine a stepped pipe to replace the rusted one.

Flysh it off, and press in a machined spigot with sealant…works for core plugs

That's what it looks like to me.
Hammer and punch/chisel would probably get the remains out.

Looks like it's a press in by the part.

First car I travelled in was a Prefect E93A - like this

I can't tell you too much about it I was in my pram cot on the back seat at the time.

BTW that looks to be a Morgan 4/4 Series 2 so if early it will be about 1955.
If you write or go to the factory in Malvern with the chassis number,
they can look it up in the Despatch Book and tell you its original specification and where sold to.
Did it for a friends 4/4 Series1 - sold to a member of the British Embassy staff in Berlin in early 1939.
Gordon's car was re-registered in Britain in August 1939 ...

I would look at using a Dremel type tool to very carefully grind along the inside of the remains to weaken it before using a hammer and chisel .

The Morgan /4 series2 is not 100e engine according too wiki ... not that i was going too say that, it's a thermosiphon cooling system so not under great pressure. I was going the suggest a made part, warmed up engine, freezer for the tube and press in off the chassis if need be ?

I would cut off flush, then drill and tap with a BSP thread, then fit a barrel nipple of something like the right size for the hose. Could use something like JB weld to seal the thread.
