OK
Afternoon fellow tinkerers!
New here so please forgive any indiscretions.
I have acquired (for nowt!)what appears to be a perfectly sound compressor.
It is a 1981 Ingersol Rand Euro 10.
100 litre upright receiver. SNEEG Compressor Type E1 C15V 415/9 (I think, the label is a bit grubby). It has 11.3292 on the cylinder casting
I suspect it has been re-motored at some point in its life as it has a 1.5kw single phase 2850rpm motor on it. 10.5amp
Had to replace the pressure switch as the original one was burnt out (clue?). To test the motor i wired it direct on a 13 amp plug with no load. However, it immediately trips my RCD (earth fault i would have thought). Took the motor to work for our sparks to check out. Said motor runs fine, i explained the problem and they reckon there must be a very small earth leakage, not dangerous but just sufficient to trip my ELCB on the main unit. (They had it wired the same as me but their test bench doesn't have the ELCB, and don't ask me why!!)
Took the motor home and just to see if the compressor actually runs. temporarily connected it through the switch (minus earth but with rubber gloves, mats and wellies!) and hey presto! runs fine. However, when starting, it hesitates sometimes and then trips only the consumer unit which feeds the garage (rated 80 amps by the way). The garage supply is through a 20amp fuse on this unit, the only other thing coming off it is a couple of outside lights.
So to my questions. Is this motor the correct size for this compressor? If so, is it saveable at reasonable cost with a quick bake or a rewind? Are those £90 jobs on Ebay worth getting?
Any help much appreciated. Excellent forum by the way, spent hours reading so far.
