'Fun' with an auto-darkening helmet

I started to weld the firewall on my hot rod yesterday and noticed that the visor wasn't darkening.

I tested it a bit and it was fine... and got back into position...no darkness!

I realised that although most of me was under the dash, the sensor couldn't 'see' the arc as it was above the dash...doh.

I adjusted my position and all was tickety-boo again.

I'd have claimed a new on under warranty before I twigged what was going on

Probably happened to other people and it probably went in skip.

Its common with cheaper helmets when working in awkward positions, better quality helmets have more sensors, never have that trouble with a glass fibre bucket!

Hi, yep i had that issue when i was welding the damper mount under the wheel arch, the 2nd time i used the helmet.
well that and the work light interfering with the sensors a little.
i just went back to my standard one cus couldn't get in to suitable position...
