Thankfully, the free personal version stays untouched at zero (currently)

Indeed. And I wouldn't be surprised if the personal edition became $99 a year, with them highlighting the "$590 saving".

I'm going to keep using it for now as it is free and I think the "grown up" way of doing things in F360 will do me well if I ever need to switch to something else.

Just as long as Onshape stays free (which, of course, isn't guaranteed), Autodesk can charge whatever they like; I still wouldn't use it .

I really should find something else to use before they start charging for personal use. They keep making it more restrictive to use.

I might have to go back to an old version of Solid Edge that I might still have.

Working in the software industry I would say that's a pretty common outcome, not just for Autodesk (452 examples!). That said, often it's because the acquisition didn't turn out to be the pot of gold they expected and so they shut it down to save money.
It would be an expensive effort to buy companies just to shut them down (and, outside the movies, that rarely happens) so typically this is a result of a poor acquisition / fit rather than a deliberate policy.

Still sucks for the consumers and the employees though.

I'm surprised they've not put the price up before now, when you compare it to the competition.
