Fusion 360 training

well, I ran itno more issues with my ancient version of Sketchup. I use it all the time for everything and it's great but there are unresolved issues and I keep running into impossible design requirements. I'm building a copy of an Eames chair and just need to turn my construction lines into 3 dimensional material. Impossible due to the complexity of the structure.

So I am going to commit to this:

Yes I think a day each plus following (monkey see monkey do) should get me to a useful level in 30 days.

I just hope I can do a similar thing with my general level of fitness!

I don’t think Fusion will work for your lovely workshop layouts and things of that scale. Just my opinion, could be wrong, but I imagine it being really slow and faffy for that sort of thing, especially managing components. I use Fusion for smaller stuff / anything to be 3D printed and for anything large scale is Sketchup.

Not sure if it is easier or harder or even really what you are meaning but here is a setup I did when designing the plasma and seeing how things would fit in my steel container.

I think you're right (and thanks!) but I won't be using it for that sort of thing. I will need to move to a parametric modelling solution for more intricate components and mechanical designs with multiple components.

For example, editing or simplifying this thing is a nightmare in Sketchup

...and the JWST fully articulating model - forgetaboutit. That design is cast in stone unless I completely redraw it.

I also increasingly need to design more fluid organic shapes, put chamfers and bends into complex compound planes and while I can get away with that sometimes in Sketchup, as my designs become more complex, Sketchup becomes more difficult.

I think you’ll like it. Not long ago I forgot my Autodesk password and fought with Sketchup for a good half hour trying to draw something that would take seconds in Fusion (or any of the others). I’ve done the same the other way round. Both have their place.

Engrave the password on a quality stainless steel dog tag & wear it on a cord round your neck ?
