g,day kenny from d/under,retired truckie own arc and mig gasless,i owned an old arc but recently invested in anew arc invertor and anew gasless mig,wanting to restore my ford xb,and at the mo working on arust spot 200mm x 150mm,cut it all out now replaceing with some gal metal,shaped parts to go in,but having trouble learning to use mig,have being looking at mig tuturail on this site,very good easy to understand and helpfull,iam finding the best method for me is plug weld,just practising at the mo,lol.nearly there.bloody arc is jumping need to do some more reading on site,i will get there nice and slow but sure.anyway have agood day smile behappy and good fishing.kenny out.

Welcome to the forums

If the new metal is galvanized, you will need to grind off the coating near the welds. The zinc will boil and cause porosity and arc stability problems.

Zinc fumes are an irritant and cause "weld fume fever".

Gasless is a bit hot for thin metal. It is hard to see and hear if the weld is right due to all the smoke.

Practice on some thicker steel to get the feel of the MIG. Thin takes practice.

Post some pictures of welds and we can help with getting going.

Hi Kenny, welcome to the forum from "up over" . As Shenion says, grind off galv coating before welding, not good for your health!.
Post pics of your project if possible.
