Hey guys.
My name is Chris, but everyone calls me Vard, so might as well follow that trend, huh?
I'm 22 and near Swindon in West Wilts.
Naaaaow. Context as to why I'm here. I've been contemplating that learning to weld would be a practical thing for me to do, as I'm aiming to get into a position to be working on cars 9-5 week in, week out - it's what I spend my time doing in my spare time anyway, so it'd be excellent.
There's also the coincidental fact that I'm one of those strange, inexplicable Rover nutters, and we all know how they are stereotyped to rust more than anything else on this earth ever.
Anyway.
This in particular is why I have been motivated to get looking for pointers to begin learning;
A very rare car. This is a Rover 420 GSi Turbo (non sport model), which I today shelled out a grand total of £100 for.
One of 500 420 GSi Turbos ever made, and furthermore, one of far fewer number made before they began badging them 'Sport'. Currently we know there to be ~50 remaining on the road - primarily because they're cheap, and chavs love to buy them to rip that 2.0l turbocharged heart out of, to make MG ZR Turbos. It's a trend I've never really understood, as the R8 is a far more attractive car than any bubble shaped Rover or MG ZR if you ask me.
I digress.
Looks good from ten foot away, (well, to me anyway - I love the shape of the R8).
Closer up though, some minor bits;
And the big one, the sill. Or... rather, lack of;
So, maybe I'm mad for undertaking the project with no experience of welding or bodyworking, or maybe I'm mad for liking Rovers to begin with. I don't really care if either's true, possibly again because I'm barking.
At my disposal I have my father's Clarke MIG 110, which I am assured will be pretty decent for the task ahead.
Couple of other things before I sign off. I'm an insomniac, and I ramble a lot.
So, hello one and all. Imma go have a browse of the forum now.
Vard out.
