Galvanize Steel

Hi Boys!

I am planing to do some alteration in a Boat Trailer.
It is made from Galvanize Steel.
I am intending to use SIP 2.5 6013 electrodes.
I am unsure about the process as I haven't weld in the past galvanize steel.
I read the forum and found some info.
Really not clear about the weld and if it is necessary to paint job done?
Any info?

6013's will tend to burn though galv, but still not ideal. Then you have to deal with the zinc fumes (weld fever).

Grind the galv off for consistent results. There are spray-on galv coatings for the welded areas.

You'll need to grind away the galvanising in the area you're welding to avoid creating harmful fumes then you'll need to protect the welds and surrounding areas with something to prevent them rusting.

What the ideal electrode for Galvanize then?
What spray-on galv?
Any particular to go with?

6011 are supposed to be good for galv. Need high OCV and preferably DC welder. They are deep penetration rods, lots of smoke and a bit messy.

I'd rather grind the galv coating off than use them.

Do a search for "cold galvanizing spray". I have no recommendations for one.

Galvanized steel isnt a grade of steel, its carbon steel (or a variation of) that has been dipped in molten zinc, therefore grind it off and your left with carbon/mild steel

Theres no "ideal" rod for galv, just grind it off, weld the joint, and spray it with galv or paint it with red oxide or something.
