Garage door ideas

I'm still not sure what is the best solution for garage doors for my lean-to I'm building. The issue is the garage is on a hill and slopes down from left to right, but also slopes upwards as you go into the lean-to. I'm thinking of having 3 or 4 doors that concertina to the right. Anyone got any better ideas? The aperture is about 3m x 3m. As always don't want to spend too much.

Well you've got plenty of height! I would have thought a regular up and over garage door or even a roller shutter would be perfect. They come up all the time secondhand and the odd sizes never sell well....

Problem is, finding the correct odd size.

I've been keeping an eye out for an up and over door, nothing has come up up this way that big unfortunately. New would be rather expensive.

workshop has a 3x3mtr doorway,

i just made 2x 1500x3000 doors was allways going to put a personell door in one but never really needed to in the end, 50x50 box structure covered in sterlingboard with plastic coated tin over the top, cheep and tough

you could also make a 3 door system one for the high part so could be opened for the bigger things to come out of and 2 smaller 2 metre swing doors

Problem is, finding the correct odd size.

The doors would swing out the way to the right side but don't fully swing in or to the left will be an issue also, but maybe a thinner door may be okay to swing out on the left side.

Will knock off too much height I think for getting the van in and out.

roller door can be hung higher than the door hight if mounted on the outside just not as good secuirity wise

You mean like doors on an old fashioned fire station?

There are two sorts of roller doors (on wagons at least) there's the sort that roll up around themselves like a roller blind and you get a type that just run in a channel either side and end up parallel to the roof. Can't you just use the existing doors and extend them upwards or build a hinged flap that lifts up and is held up by gas struts (same thing used on wagons that have a large tail lift instead of doors).

biggest problem i've found with 2nd hand roller doors is, there 2nd hand for a reason chances are it was taken out to be replaced and unlike windows that reason is never so that it matches the rest,

That rather depends on who you know.. one of my roller shutters came off a knocking shop door, it had only been fitted twelve weeks and cost me fifty quid.

not from me ..

but you can get rollers in decent condition s/h .. even new they are often cheaper than wood.

This is what I was thinking. Another idea was a sliding door with a hinged bottom as it would need to go in my workshop and it is up hill.

concertina doors are the basic here, 3 or 4 panel. pretty reasonable price too for the basic ones.

also up and overs where you lose little head height. Other option is the same idea but round the side sliding doors, not bad if you've got the room. Although you can lose a lot of wall space with round the wall ones. These might give you some ideas
