dunno what to call this, and, niether will you until you have a notion what it looks like... however you wont get that from these pics, - hold up ill draw it, that'll sort it...

Am building it at the mo, will add more pics when I start to assemble. The central part is the base of a bin from the 70's they were getting rid of at work, it was a VERY nice bin.

We had a session in the garden a few weeks back, and when I woke in the morning one of my buddies had lit a fire in it, and I went, hold up, that has potential.
So a nice way to come into being.

Slim im getting an additional 200 litre tank tomo, so ill be able to cut for a few feet without stopping, that will be nice. I'm working with 50 liters at the mo, and can only run about a foot and a half before I have to stop cutting and wait for the compressor.

If i don't stop the combined drain of the plasma and the compressor trips the switch to the shed. So looking forward to hooking this up to my existing one for a combined capacity of 250 litre's.

Jim. I need five legs, because, drunk males can get destructive, so, i want it to be as 'un-flippable-over' as possible, hence the outer diameter of this thing will be quite large.

Added to that, I'm making the fire thing (its not a pit if its elevated?) to compliment my bench, which is wooden.... - if someone flips over the fire the bench could go whoosh.

Those are the realities.

I also have to lock my shed during sessions. There are way too many ways to hurt someone in my shed. Way too many.


The bench below, I created a thread for it on a woodworking forum, lol, im not much of a woodworker, but it is wood, so i guess it qualifies.

It still isn't finished, but is usable as-is. Actually its come on a bit since I took the below pic. These are all from the other thread, sorry for the barrage.

They won't necessarily sit level, but they don't wobble.

I was thinking about that just now, and I'm actually going to weld 6 inch spikes onto the bottom of each leg, and then drive it into the ground when setting up.

Shouldnt budge at all after that, and definitely wont wobble.

giant bench or tiny gal? anyways re fire maybe you should also consider some sort of gaurd/ grab rail around the top so when someones a bit merry and they trip on one of those legs their arm doesnt go straight in the fire...also get some copper tube, split it down one side,open split and run it down top edge of legs, not only safer look gooood.Arther

well this is it though isnt it...
I have been ..... discouraged... from making something similar to this for the sitting room, as we have a little one in the house. And thats fair enough.

Yeh, totally agree. Yah the bench is deliberately big. I was actually trying to copy a bench I saw in Greece last year, its hard to make out, but, you can see it in the distance here, serious piece of kit, beautifully situated.

well it works good you did a nice job, just think how many summers you can enjoy a few hours chilling out on that. you must have a decent mower by the size of lawn!

here is a mockup featuring the bin base. will use high temperature black paint on the outside of the base, and tractor enamel signal yellow for the ends of the legs.

So, I decided to re-do this fire in plate steel, so the floor is 8mm and the walls of the bowl are 12mm. The previous surface started to disintegrate, decay, turn to carbon. This should last a while.

old version, never really got the appearance it deserved. I was drunk welding it together and I was more drunk painting it, so it was a disgrace, really.

new version. Going to paint it yellow again. Maybe some stripes. Buying VHT engine paint off ebay.
