gas and steel suppliers Stevenage?

I have just had a teacher spend a couple of days on one of my sculpture making courses, and she will be looking for supplies of steel and gas in the Stevenage area, has anybody got any suggestions.
A brave woman, she has got her school to stump up for a plasma cutter, Mig welder and metal craft tools on my recommendations to start up a sculpture course at the school. Never seen a welder or plasma cutter before yesterday.
There is hope for our schools with people like this around.

Sorry i cant answer your question,just had to say its great to hear of the school taking interest in metalwork again.Do they still teach it nowadays?
She should do what Jamie Oliver did with school dinners and get metalwork rolled out in more schools.Let the kids get their hands dirty for a change.

I thought schools had gone back to plasticine and paer mache these days. Because big scary iron and electricity are against health and safety, as baby might get a boo boo on the arm and mummy cant get there quick enough to kiss it better ?

For welding gas I use a Adams dealer, he is based in Stevenage. But I collect from his depot thats close by to me, he will deliver. Nice to deal with really http://deansbottledgas.co.uk/page12.html

As for steel I'm not too sure really, prehaps approach a local fab place and get some cheap/free off cuts? Not too sure on whats around that area, even though it's only 20 miles away.

Regards metal, they are happy to pay the going rate. What a school that is happy to buy stuff as well.
This lady is passionate about the arts, and is looking to get the boys more involved as well getting the girruls to do dirty dangerous stuff.

For gas, there's also Barnet Welding located in Colney Heath ( not Barnet! ) near St Albans. A bit further away, but that is where I get mine.

I was going to mention Smiths too. Although I lived in Biggleswade for a number of years I never got round to ordering from Smiths.
My gas cylinder came from Weld-Air Supplies in Dunstable but that's obviously not the closest place to Stevenage.
