Im sure this has been asked many times. Ive had a look around, but most of the info is turning a gas bottle into a receiver tank.
My old second-hand 50l compressor has given up the ghost, well the tank has had it, its got a crack/pin hole near the top where the motor bracket weld is, and anytime id drain water it was always a rusty colour, tbh, i should've ditched it ages ago. Monies tight at the mo, ive been looking at some of them cheaper 100l compressors, (wolf/SGS) but from what ive read they're Chinesium crap and the tanks are quite thin, and a clarke/sealey are a bit out of my price range, im also a bit wary of buying second hand. Ive stripped everything off my old compressor and have been thinking of adding it all to a 47kg gas bottle, in pretty much in the same layout as the old one. Cut the bungs off the old one, drill some holes, add some brackets and weld them into basically the same places, and then attach motor and pipes.
I will obviously drain and fill it with water a few times, leave it a while to get rid of any fumes. The main question i have is it safe to weld onto a tank, structure wise?
Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks
